I Heart Crunch. Which basically means I heart carbs. So many protein based products out there are chewy. Chewy has it's place, but give me crunch, yeah baby.
Tri-o-plex Protein Puffs by Chef Jay are soy-based little poofs that are reminscent of old fashioned "cheese puffs," you know, the bright orange powdered corn puffs? Still, they are totally different. The Protein Puffs are dainty little curls, much smaller than cheese puffs, made with SOY PROTEIN and actual flavor. They come in two varieties, Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch. I'm noshing on the Cool Ranch right now.
The puffs are crunchy, and break down in your mouth like a regular cheese puff. They differ in texture, because they are primarily soy and whey protein isolates, and partly rice and corn flour. It's slighty grittier, but every soy protein I have tried IS. The seasoning on these, is ranch. It brings to mind Doritos. (Not that I am eating them, but did I used to?! Mmm-hmm.) They don't leave a nasty film on your fingers though, like puffs or flavored tortilla chips.

Half a bag, 99 calories. The whole bag, 198. MM can eat the whole bag with her smallish stomach. Now, last time I ate these, I had the Nacho Cheese flavor. (Nacho Cheese Dorito Flavor) I had a wicked urge for dip, and I had these puffs on hand. I took a small container of 0% fat greek yogurt, added a little powdered dip mix (OR BACON SALT!) and made a high protein dip. O M G. Slurp. I would continue this with one half bag Puffs, a bit of high protein yogurt dip, and it's a super snack for those I MUST HAVE CRUNCH cravings.
